His Ears Grow When He Lies?

“For me, he’s become a little smaller, his ears pointier,” says Matt Davies, Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist about his renditions of President George W. Bush. “I draw him with his eyes closed a lot. That just seems to fit. And whistling a lot – he doesn’t seem to care much about anything.”

There’s an interesting analysis of editorial cartoonists’ take on drawing Bush by Mike Peters in The Dallas Morning News.

Apparently when Bush is doing well cartoonists draw him larger and with normal size ears, but as things turn sour, the president shrinks and his ears become enormous. An allusion to Pinocchio perhaps?
