Saturday Morning Cartoon

This is so great!

Some more info:

IRON MAN takes on TITANIUM MAN in the classic 1966 Marvel comics cartoon. The feature is barely animated, but it uses panels from real Iron Man stories drawn by Gene Colon and Don Heck. Written by Stan the man Lee, it’s the hi-tech Cold War smackdown of the century — “Fight On, For A World Is Watching!”

High School Cartoons - 12/16/87

Here's another old cartoon of mine from my high school paper, The Lance.

Today's is from December 16, 1987. Here's a bit of the page it was on:

Lance 12 16 1987 Page

And here's the cartoon close up (well, not really):

Lance 12 16 1987

There's a lot I like about this one. It runs the width of the page, that black background is eye catching, it reads well left to right, and it's another attempt at a wordless gag. Not a great gag, but good for high school.

So that's it for this month's look into Andertoons' past. Hard to believe that 22 years later I'm still doing this.

LEGO Egg Fighter

Eggfighter

There's no interesting reason why I decided to call this little LEGO ship of mine an "Egg Fighter," I just thought it looked like an egg.

Anyhow, there's some pics up here.

Enjoy!

Looking back I have no idea why I'd attack Thanksgiving leftovers. That's not much of a joke, and I LOVE Thanksgiving leftovers!

Still, the art is getting better, and my handwriting is much improved.

(And I have to admit I like that the plate of food is still gobbling.)

Advertooning

Sptoon

Saw this the other day via Journalista (click here to read the whole thing) and it really resonated with me.

I wouldn't say Andertoons is a webcomic per se, nor am I a traditional print/syndicated cartoonist. I am an independent cartoonist (and proud of it) and although I don't sell ads on my site or blog, I gotta say this makes sense to me.

That being said, it's not as easy as just posting some cartoons and throwing some ads up, but the stigma attached to that kind of business model by some seems unfair to me.

Anyway, Willis' cartoon made sense to me.

High School Cartoons - 10/21/87

Here's another old cartoon of mine from my high school paper, The Lance.

Today's is from October 21, 1987. Here's a bit of the page it was on:

Lance 10 21 1987 Page

And here's the cartoon close up:

OK, this one's gonna take some explaining.

A local high school, West, had recently banned the wearing of Spuds Mackenzie t-shirts in school, and the teen community was outraged.

So I did a reversal and had Spuds putting his students in detention for wearing West t-shirts.

All I can figure is I must have cut it too close to the deadline, because that's a lazy lazy joke, even for a high schooler.

Ugh…
