« Superhero Valentines | Main | MetLife Cartoon Superbowl Commercial – Behind the Scenes Extras »
MetLife's Superbowl ad this year is pretty tremendous if you're a cartoon fan. Not only do you get the Peanuts gang, you get a whole host of cartoon awesomeness not seen since Roger Rabbit or that 2005 MasterCard commercial.
Here, take a look:
Isn't that fun? Wanna know who's all in it? Here's the list as far as I can tell in order of appearance more or less:
I looked at MetLife's Facebook page to double check myself, and found that they did make a few errors:
They list Captain Caveman as being in the ad, when in fact it's Rock & Gravel Slag:

They also fail to list Witch Hazel, Ranger Smith, and Tex Avery's wolf.
And, this isn't an error per se, but did you notice Charlie Brown and friends only appear in the very beginning of the ad? And they're not in the cast list on Facebook. (I'm thinking legal issues or something.)
I do need some help, though. Can anyone tell me who this is?

Is it a Scooby-Doo villain? They only appears in a few frames, but I just cannot figure it out. And did I miss anyone else?
Also, wanna know where Waldo is in the commercial? Actually, he's all over the place:

Now you can impress your friends when it airs!
Anyway, it's always a hoot to see so many cartoons in one place. Nice job, MetLife! (And don't miss the extra videos here!)
What did you think? Anyone you'd have liked to see included?
Hat tip to Bleeding Cool!

I can’t recall the name, but the mystery toon is the scary clown character from Scooby Doo.

That’s Daphne Blake getting out of the limo with Richie Rich. It seems you have her listed much later.
Great fun!

Thanks! I listed her later because Richie is shown the scene earlier in the meadow by himself (in the limo’s sunroof).

I thought so too, but he didn’t look enough like the Ghost Clown in the final scene for me to be sure.

The unidentified character is “ghost clown”. A scooby-doo villain

OK, another vote for Ghost Clown. I think we’ve got it solved.

I don’t know, I’m kinda getting a Gargamel vibe off that guy.

I thought it might be Snidely Whiplash, based off of posture and costume color.

They needed Space Ghost in there and Dyno Mutt…this ad was great though, reminded me of an all-time favorite show “Laff-o-Lympics”!

Maybe…

I used to LOVE Dyno-Mutt! At least there was no damned Scrappy-Doo.

This is an awesome commercial!

The Flintstones are definitely missing.

Where are Inspector Gadget, Jem, Optimus Prime, Plastic-Man, the Wonder Twins, the Ninja Turtles, Speed Racer, the Chipmunks, the Chippettes, Garfield and Heathcliff?

There’s all kinds of folks I’d have liked to see in there. The PowerPuff girls, Batman, etc… I’m sure getting rights though would be cost-prohibitive.

Yeah, where’s Secret Squirrel?!
Posted by: andertoons | Feb 6, 2012 at 7:06 pm
And if you add him, you’re going to need Morocco Mole

I believe you missed Gazoo from the Flintstones. He’s hovering between Grape Ape and the Jetsons in the final scene. Also, where’s Ranger Smith?
Posted by: Greg D. | Feb 6, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Correction, what I thought was Gazoo may be your Atom Ant.
Posted by: Greg D. | Feb 6, 2012 at 9:31 pm
I’m pretty sure that’s Atom Ant, especially since they didn’t include any of the Flintstones characters. As far as Ranger Smith, he’s next to Cindy Bear on her left in the scene before Daphne gets out of the limo. Look at around 0:20 fullscreen.
